Azores is the only place in Europe that cultivates pineapple
Okay, technically, it’s not 100 percent true.
There are tiny experimental pineapple productions in mainland Europe. But when people say “European pineapple,” they mean São Miguel. Period.
Here, pineapples are grown inside glass greenhouses, not tropical fields and definitely not imported nonsense. And they take almost two years to grow. Two years. That’s commitment for a fruit.
Also, small correction. It’s not “abacaxi.” That’s Brazil. Here it’s ananás.
And yes, it’s São Miguel that actually grows them, not the entire Azores. Other islands don’t have commercial pineapple production.
So is it the only place in Europe?
Technically, no. Culturally and commercially?
Yeah… basically.
What do you think about Azores is the only place in Europe that cultivates pineapple?
