Bolo Lêvedo: Azorean Sweet Muffins
Quick Summary
"Is it bread, dessert, or a sandwich bun? Yes."
Rui's experience
Bolo Lêvedo is one of those things I’m never sure how to classify. Is it a dessert? A sweet bread? A bun? All of the above. It’s a soft, slightly sweet bun. Simple. No cream, no filling, no drama. Some people slice it open and turn it into a sandwich with ham and cheese, almost like a burger bun. That works. I get it. But honestly? I prefer it plain. Fresh. Still warm if possible. No toppings. No upgrades. If it’s just out of the oven and you pair it with a latte… that’s peak Azorean comfort. Very traditional. And in my opinion, the best ones are in Furnas.
