    Azorean Barnacles

    Quick Summary

    "Ugly, prehistoric, and absolutely addictive."

    Rui's experience

Cracas, known in English as gooseneck barnacles, are one of the most intense seafood experiences you can have in the Azores.

They grow attached to rocks in rough Atlantic waters, and harvesting them is no joke. Big waves. Real ocean stuff. They’re cooked very simply, just in salted water.

No fancy sauces. No tricks. When the product is this good, you don’t mess with it. To eat them, you’ll need a small metal hook to help pull the meat out. It’s messy. It’s hands-on.

That’s part of the fun. The flavor? Pure Atlantic. Salty, mineral, fresh. Best way to enjoy them? With cornbread on the side. And a cold beer in your hand. That part is mandatory. One of my favorite seafood starters. Not pretty. Not elegant. But seriously good.
