Especial
Quick Summary
"It literally means “special.” It’s… fine."
Rui's experience
The Azores has its own local beer called Cerveja Especial. The name literally means “special.” It’s produced by the same company that makes Laranjada and Kima.
It’s a very light beer. Very light taste. Easy to drink. Not aggressive. Not complex. Not particularly bold either.
If you like beers with strong personality, deep bitterness, or heavy body, this isn’t that. It’s smooth, simple, and straightforward. On a hot summer day, it works. It doesn’t overwhelm anything.
Personally, it’s okay. I drink it. But it wouldn’t be my first choice if I’m looking for something with more character.
That said, it’s part of the local identity. If you’re here, you’ll see it everywhere.
