"Old-school Portuguese food, zero fluff, ridiculously honest prices."
Rui's experience
This one genuinely surprised me.
It’s very traditional, very Portuguese, and completely unapologetic about it. The space has beautiful old-school charm, with stone arches and thick walls, almost basement vibes. It feels like it has been there forever. No trendy nonsense, no fake rustic Instagram setup. Just character.
The service is hardcore Portuguese. Loud, direct, efficient. If you’re expecting fine-dining whispers and curated smiles, this is not it. But they’re genuinely nice. Loud doesn’t mean rude. It just means local.
I went for the dish of the day, fried fish with rice. Was it life-changing? No. Was it solid, tasty, comforting food? Yes. The kind of plate that does the job without pretending to be something it’s not.
Now the part that really stands out: the price.
Dish of the day for around €8 in the centre of Ponta Delgada. In 2026. That’s crazy value. I had the dish, a beer, and a coffee for about €10 total. That’s hard to beat.
When you look around and see mostly locals eating there, you know it’s not a tourist trap. Azoreans don’t waste money on bad food.
No parking though. It’s city centre. You walk.
If you want something fast, traditional, affordable, and properly Portuguese without Instagram hype, this is a very safe bet...
