Arriba
São Miguel Island
"Good Mexican food, but getting a bit pricey."
Rui's experience
Arriba is one of those old, well-known restaurants in Ponta Delgada. It’s been around forever, and I’ve eaten there many times over the years. From a Mexican food point of view, it’s genuinely good. Historically, I always left with a good impression.
The atmosphere is, by far, one of its strongest points.
The place really nails the Mexican look and feel. Colors, decor, vibe. You walk in and it feels right. That part has always been great and still is.
That said, the last time I went, the experience wasn’t as good.
The food quality felt like it dropped a bit, and at the same time, the prices went up a lot. The value for money just wasn’t there anymore. I left feeling it was too expensive for what I got.
Because all my previous experiences were good, I’m not writing this place off.
I probably need to go back again to see if that last visit was just a bad day or a real change.
Pros
- Very good Mexican atmosphere and vibe
- One of the most characteristic interiors in town
Cons
- Prices have increased a lot
- Parking nearby exists, but it’s usually full
