Azorean Poke
São Miguel Island
"I don’t know if it’s Hawaiian or Japanese, but it’s actually pretty good."
Rui's experience
Azorean Poke brands itself as the first Hawaiian food spot in the Azores. To be honest, it doesn’t really feel Hawaiian to me. It feels much more Japanese. Sushi rice, sashimi, fresh fish, lots of salad. But hey, Japan isn’t that far from Hawaii, so maybe this still counts. The place itself is… weird. It feels more like a canteen than a restaurant. There are only two or three tables, so it’s very clear this is more of a takeaway or delivery spot than a place to sit down and relax. Most people probably grab the food and go, or order it online. That said, the food is surprisingly good. Very fresh, very tasty, and consistent. I’ve eaten here several times and the quality never really drops. It doesn’t blow your mind, but it also never disappoints. So yeah, definition aside, the food does its job. And it does it well.
Pros
- Surprisingly good and fresh food
- Consistent quality
Cons
- Feels like a canteen, not a proper restaurant
- Very few tables
