Big Bull Steakhouse
São Miguel Island
"The best dry-aged beef on São Miguel. Also, really expensive."
Rui's experience
Big Bull Steakhouse specializes in dry-aged beef. That’s their thing. They do have a “normal” menu with regular dishes, but I haven’t tried those yet. I’ve only been there once, and I went straight for their specialty. Here, you don’t order a steak by portion. You order the meat by weight. Half a kilo, one kilo, and you share it with your friends. That’s exactly what we did. We ordered the cheapest dry-aged cut they had, plus one beer each. And I still ended up paying an absurd amount of money. Now, let’s be clear. The meat was very good. Super tender. Perfectly cooked. Zero complaints about the quality. I know dry-aged beef isn’t cheap. I get that. The problem is everything around it. Service was normal. Atmosphere was normal. Nothing special, nothing memorable. And for what you pay, the overall experience just doesn’t justify the price. Not because the food is bad. It isn’t. But because the price is way out of proportion compared to the full experience. For me, this was an experience I probably won’t repeat. If I go back, it will be to try the other, more “normal” dishes on the menu, not the dry-aged beef again.
Pros
- Best dry-aged beef in São Miguel
- Very good meat quality
- Large variety of dry-aged cuts
Cons
- Really expensive. No sugarcoating it
