Cantão
São Miguel Island
"Decent Chinese food. Bad service."
Rui's experience
Cantão is a historic place. This was the first Chinese restaurant in the Azores, opened more than 30 years ago. For a long time, this place was a reference. And I don’t say this lightly. I’ve eaten Chinese food in mainland Portugal, Spain, Germany, and Cantão was genuinely one of the best. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case. In recent years, they added Japanese food to the menu, probably because it’s trendy. And since then, the quality of everything went downhill. Both the Chinese and the Japanese food suffered. The focus is gone, and it shows. And the service… yeah. Really bad. Consistently bad. Slow, unorganized, and not attentive at all. It completely kills the experience. It honestly makes me a bit sad, because this place used to mean something. Now it just feels like a shadow of what it once was.
Pros
- All-you-can-eat option
Cons
- Food quality has dropped a lot
- Service is really bad
