    Graciosa Island

"One of the most impressive volcanic caves in the Azores."

    Rui's experience

Furna do Enxofre is easily one of the must-see places on the island of Graciosa. You don’t walk through endless tunnels here. Instead, you descend into one massive volcanic chamber that feels almost unreal.

The cave is enormous, big enough that it feels like you could fit a football field inside. At the bottom there’s a small lake and a bit of geothermal activity, which gives the place an eerie but fascinating atmosphere. With the lighting and the scale of the cavern, the whole experience feels dramatic without requiring a long hike.

    Pros

    • Huge volcanic cave with an impressive scale
    • Easy access, no long cave walk required
    • One of the top attractions in Graciosa

    Cons

    • The visit is relatively short
    • Not much to explore beyond the main chamber
