    Ilhéu de São Roque

    São Miguel Island

"A small rocky islet you can climb in five minutes for a quick view."

    Rui's experience

Ilhéu de São Roque is technically called an islet, but in reality it’s just a rocky chunk connected to the coastline. It’s nothing like the famous Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo.

Here you’ll find a ladder that lets you climb to the top, where you get a decent view of the coast and the ocean. There are even a couple of picnic tables up there if you feel like sitting for a bit. That said, this is not a place where you’ll spend much time. Most people climb up, look around for a few minutes, maybe take a photo, and leave.

    Pros

    • Quick climb with a nice coastal view
    • Interesting little spot along the shoreline

    Cons

    • Very small and simple
    • You’ll probably spend only 10–15 minutes here
