"Tiny, quiet, and very skippable. But hey, it’s on the way."

    Rui's experience

First of all, yes, the name is weird. Even in Portuguese. Moving on. Lagoa das Empadadas is ridiculously small. Calling this a lake is being generous. It’s closer to a pond than anything else. I’ve only been here two or three times in my life, and that already tells you something. That said, it’s not ugly. At all. The surroundings are raw, green, and quiet. It’s actually quite cute. You park nearby, walk a tiny bit, take a look, maybe a photo, and that’s it. This is not a destination. This is a “since I’m already here” stop. If you’ve just seen Sete Cidades and other lakes on São Miguel, don’t expect any wow factor. Expectations need to be low. Very low. But if you’re passing by, why not?

    Pros

    • Very quiet and calm
    • Raw nature all around

    Cons

    • Extremely small
