This is probably my favorite lake in São Miguel, not because it’s the most beautiful, but because of the memories attached to it. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, camping around the lake, and there’s just something about this place that pulls you back.
The surroundings are pure nature, parks, trees, and steam coming out of the ground. Hot springs are everywhere. This is one of the few places where you can literally cook food underground, straight from the earth. Right next to the lake you have the village of Furnas, with traditional food, thermal pools, and a very unique atmosphere. Furnas is its own world. One day is definitely not enough to properly experience it.

- Unique volcanic environment with hot springs all around
- Amazing nature and peaceful surroundings
- Close to Furnas village with traditional food and thermal spots

- Requires time, rushing this place completely ruins the experience
