Lagoa de Santiago
São Miguel Island
"Small, quiet, and criminally underrated."
Rui's experience
A tiny lake right next to Lagoa das Sete Cidades, and you basically pass it every time you drive there. Most people don’t even stop, which is honestly great. There’s a very small parking spot, no facilities, no cafés, no BS. From the parking area, the viewpoint is right there and super easy to access.
If you want to reach the lake itself, there’s a short nature trail going down through the forest. From above it looks very Instagram-friendly, but going down is worth it because you get a completely different perspective. Calm, simple, and beautiful.
Pros
- Very peaceful compared to Sete Cidades
- Feels untouched and quiet
Cons
- No facilities at all
- To reach the lake level, you need to do a downhill nature trail
