"Small, cheap, and actually worth the stop."

    Rui's experience

Museu Militar dos Açores is one of those museums that surprises you in a good way.

I’ve only been once, and I don’t remember exactly how much I paid, but I do remember thinking it was ridiculously cheap. Like, almost symbolic. And for what you get, it’s absolutely worth it.

Even if you’re not into military stuff, this is still a nice visit. It’s more about the military history of the Azores than weapons or anything hardcore. No gore, no heavy scenes, just context, history, and artifacts.

The museum sits inside Forte de São Brás, a very old fort right in Ponta Delgada. Honestly, the building alone already justifies the visit. Thick walls, old stone, proper fortress vibes.

This is not a long visit. It’s a quick one. You go in, walk around, learn a few things, enjoy the space, and move on. And that’s perfectly fine.

    Pros

    • Very cheap entry
    • Located inside a historic fort
    • Interesting even for non military people

    Cons

    • Small museum
    • Easy to miss if you’re not paying attention
