O Galego

O Galego is as local as it gets.

Not in a raw, old-looking way, because they’ve done some renovations and the place actually looks nice now. But the soul is still 100% local.

For me, this is easily top three on São Miguel for the traditional Azorean steak, the bife à regional.

And trust me, it’s amazing.

The steak is not expensive, the sauce is ridiculous, and everything just works.

I’ve been coming here for years, and it’s one of those places that never lets you down when it comes to this dish.

There’s really only one problem.

They don’t take reservations.

And the place is always packed. Like, always. No matter the day.

Still, if you want to eat a proper Azorean steak, this is a must.
