O Silva
São Miguel Island
"Old school, no hype. Just properly cooked Azorean food."
Rui's experience
O Silva is one of those classic, old-school restaurants on the island. No trends. No reinvention. Just traditional Portuguese food done right.
It’s in Ribeira Grande, very local, very family-oriented, and very consistent.
Quality-wise? Very strong. For regional food, it’s actually one of the safest bets you can make.
If you’re into beef, especially a proper Azorean-style cut (Bife à Regional), this is one of the best places to do it. The meat is the star here. Seafood and fish are also solid, but beef is where they shine.
Is there a wow factor? No.
Is it modern or Instagram-ready? Also no.
But that’s not why you go.
You go because you want a reliable, traditional, high-quality meal without experiments.
Pros
- Excellent quality meat
- Strong traditional Azorean dishes
- Very consistent
- Family-friendly atmosphere
Cons
- No wow factor
- Not a “special occasion” type of place
