Poça da Dona Beija
São Miguel Island
"Hot, smelly, perfect. Absolute GOAT."
Rui's experience
This is one of the holy trinity of hot springs in São Miguel. Same league, same level, no rankings needed. If you like hot springs, this is mandatory. It’s a natural volcanic hot spring in Furnas. No machines, no tricks. The water comes straight from the volcano. It smells like sulfur, very strong. Some people hate it. I don’t care. The water is dark and reddish because of the iron, and yes, it looks weird at first. But the place itself is beautiful, well organized, super clean, and extremely well maintained. Go when it’s cold. Go at night. If it’s raining, jackpot. One of the best experiences on the island, easily.
My Pro Tips
- →Go at night, the experience is way better
- →Go in winter, hot water + cold air makes it better
- →Bring dark or old swimwear, iron in the water stains light colors permanently
- →Don’t bring jewelry, the iron in the water can stain metals
- →Buy tickets online in advance, on-site sales may not be available
Pros

Cons
