Ponta do Escalvado

I’ve only been here a handful of times, maybe four or five. My take is simple: this is a nice viewpoint, nothing more, nothing less.

I usually stop here when I’m heading to Mosteiros because it’s literally on the way. The view over the south coast and the Mosteiros area is pretty good, especially if you want a different angle of the island that isn’t Sete Cidades again.

Is it top tier? No.

There are way better viewpoints on São Miguel in terms of wow factor. But for the south side of the island, this one does the job.

It’s almost always windy. High altitude, open space, wind included. That’s just how it is here.

The best part is the access. You leave the main road, drive for maybe a minute, and you’re there. No hiking, no effort, no excuses. This is a stop, look around for five minutes, take a photo, move on.
