Queijaria Furnense
São Miguel Island
"Cheese heaven with an Azorean twist, but get there early."
Rui's experience
This place is a bit weird. In a good way.
At its core, it’s a house specialized in homemade cheeses and cheese-based sweets. That’s the foundation. But it also works as a restaurant, and surprisingly, it works really well.
You’ll find burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, but with a proper Azorean twist. They use pimenta da terra in their pizzas, cheeseburgers, and other dishes, which gives everything that unmistakable São Miguel flavor. It’s not just marketing. You actually taste it.
I really like it. The food is solid, comforting, and different enough to stand out from the typical burger-and-pizza spots.
The downside? It’s almost always packed. Even on rainy days. If you show up at 1:30 pm or mid-afternoon, expect to wait. Parking isn’t great either, especially when it’s busy.
But overall, definitely worth it...
