Rabaça
São Miguel Island
"Raw, no-frills Azorean food that absolutely delivers"
Rui's experience
O Rabaça is one of those places where you walk in and genuinely question your life choices for a second. It’s tiny, looks rough, and feels more like someone decided to turn a random space into a restaurant overnight.
This is not a place for nice views, modern design, or anything remotely fancy. If that’s what you want, just move on. Seriously.
But if you’re after proper, hardcore Azorean food, this is where things get interesting. The food is insanely good. Like, “why is this place not more famous?” kind of good. Everything feels real, local, and straight to the point. No tricks, no presentation nonsense, just flavor doing all the work.
Service is friendly, but don’t expect polished restaurant vibes. It’s very old school. They’re nice, but it’s not that “trained hospitality” style, it’s more like you’re eating at a local spot that never cared about trends, and honestly, that’s part of the charm.
Just be ready, it’s small. At lunch, it fills up fast, and getting a table can be a bit of a mission. But if you manage, you’re in for one of the most authentic meals around.
My Pro Tips
- →Go early for lunch or be ready to wait, this place fills up fast and doesn’t have space to mess around
Pros
- Incredible authentic Azorean food
- Very affordable for the quality
- Raw local experience, no tourist fluff
Cons
- Extremely small, hard to get a table at peak times
- Not modern or visually appealing at all
