Sal Grosso
São Miguel Island
"Regional, cozy, and quietly good."
Rui's experience
The food is very good, and the value for money is hard to beat. The regular menu is solid, but the real deal here are the dishes of the day. There’s usually one fish and one meat option, and they’re often around €10. For that price, the quality is genuinely impressive.
Even the service surprised me. Friendly, relaxed, and much better than you’d expect for a place like this.
The big downside is the size. The restaurant is tiny and fills up ridiculously fast. If you want to eat here, be there at 12:00 sharp. Show up at 12:20 and you’ll probably be standing outside wondering what went wrong.
Pros
- Very good quality
Cons
- The place is very small and fills up quickly

"Best octopus stew I’ve ever had."
"The Bife à Regional is pretty good here. But it’s the first time I’ve had it made with red wine. Traditionally it’s cooked with white wine, which I personally prefer."
"The dish of the day was pork chops, and they were amazing. And guess what? Only €10.5"
