Suki
São Miguel Island
"Good all-you-can-eat food. Really bad service."
Rui's experience
Suki is a very large restaurant serving a mix of Chinese and Japanese food. And when I say large, I mean really large. Tons of tables. You’re basically never going to arrive and find it completely full. The concept is all-you-can-eat with a fixed price. For this type of restaurant, the food quality is actually quite good. Both the Chinese and Japanese options are solid. It’s not amazing, but it’s clearly above what you’d expect from a typical all-you-can-eat place. And for the price, it’s fair. The big problem here is the service. And no, this is not about language. Most of the staff are very young and clearly untrained. Basic service rules are missing. Example: you order sushi with tuna, it never arrives, and only later you’re told they ran out of tuna. Nobody tells you in advance. You’re just left waiting. That kind of thing happens often. Not because they don’t speak Portuguese or English, but because they simply don’t know how to handle basic restaurant service. If you come here, come prepared. Food is fine. Service is really bad.
Pros
- Very big restaurant, easy to get a table
- Good quality for an all-you-can-eat place
- Fixed price, fair for what you get
Cons
- Service is really, really bad
- Staff lacks basic training and communication
