"Bucket list hype… for a green pond."

    Rui's experience

I had Trilho do Poço Azul on my bucket list for a long time. Finally did it. Well… kind of.

Here’s the thing. You don’t have to do the full trail. If you just want to see the famous “blue” pond, it’s about 1.2 km. Around 25 minutes. Super easy. Almost too easy. No drama, no suffering, no “am I going to die here?” vibes.

Now the funny part. I went there and the water was green. Not blue. Green. Probably because of rain, weather, whatever nature decided that day. On a sunny, dry day? I’m guessing it actually turns blue and looks like the photos. But let’s be real, Azores weather does whatever it wants.

    Is it beautiful? Yes.

Is it the most mind-blowing spot on São Miguel? Not even close.

But it’s chill, peaceful, and very accessible. Good effort to reward ratio.

    Pros

    • Very easy trail, almost anyone can do it
    • Short option available, perfect if you just want the pond
    • Good “starter” hike for beginners

    Cons

    • The “blue” pond might not be blue at all
    • Not the most impressive waterfall or lagoon on the island
