Poço Azul
São Miguel Island
"A safe bet for proper Azorean food, every single time."
Rui's experience
First, quick clarification, the restaurant is called Poço Azul, literally means Blue Pond, named after the nearby trail with, surprise, a blue pond.
Now, the food.
This is classic Azorean Portuguese food, served as an all you can eat buffet. Heavy flavors, comfort food, no experiments, no fancy plating. Just solid, honest cooking.
The price to quality ratio here is very good. You eat well, you leave full, and you don’t feel robbed. And that’s exactly why I keep coming back whenever I’m in Nordeste. It’s a safe choice.
What I like most is the consistency.
I’ve been coming here for years, and it’s always the same. Same quality, same flavors, same experience. No surprises, good or bad. That’s actually a compliment in local restaurants.
If you want something modern or creative, this isn’t it.
If you want reliable, flavorful Azorean food that won’t disappoint, this place delivers.
Pros
- Very good value for money
- All you can eat buffet
Cons
- Buffet style is not for everyone
- Parking can be a pain at lunchtime
